Condition

The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. This work has been restored and should be hung in its current condition. The canvas has a good glue lining. The paint layer is clean and certainly looks to be in very good condition. Under ultraviolet light, one can see small retouches in the right shadowed side of the forehead, on the right side of the nose, and in a few spots on the left side of the face. One can see random isolated retouches in the background, none of which are indicative of any real weakness to the paint layer. It seems that the condition is very good throughout the painting. The hands are particularly well preserved, showing no retouches at all.
