Condition

The painting overall is in good condition, the canvas has a modern glue relining and has been very slightly pressed in the process. The paint surface is in good condition beneath a clear varnish. Inspection under UV reveals retouching to an old repaired tear running horizontally approx. 4 in. from the upper left edge and another running from the lower right edge in the lectern. There are minor retouched losses scattered here and there in the background and some minor strengthening to the contours of the putti but the figures of the angel and Virgin remain largely untouched. The painting requires no further work and is ready to hang in its present state. Offered in a simply carved gilt wood period frame with decorative punch tooling with some knocks and losses.
