Condition

This small painting is in very nice condition. The picture is painted on a single panel which is flat, stable and uncradled. The picture has retained most of it's coloration and fine detailing. UV light reveals a few scattered retouches isolated to the Child's forehead as well as the Madonna's face. These have been applied well and the painting could be hung in its current state.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Catalogue Note

This composition faithfully follows a popular design by Joos van Cleve which, given its small size, must have been originally intended for private devotion. The tender figural grouping ultimately derives from a Virgin and Child by Robert Campin (Frankfurt, Städel Museum).1
