Condition

Hinge mounted. The sheet is in a reasonably delicate state with a small area of damage to the upper right quarter and some small tears and nicks to the lower and left edges. The brown wash has somewhat sunk into the sheet, however the image remains reasonably strong throughout. Sold in a giltwood frame.

Catalogue Note

Some of the brown wash and watercolor was, in all probability, added by Cornelis Dusart, who is believed to have worked up a number of the drawings by Isack and Adriaen van Ostade, which he inherited with their studio estate, following Adriaen's death in 1685.
