Catalogue Note

Though the quality of this accomplished and energetic drawing cannot be disputed, its attribution remains the subject of some discussion. A plausible solution might well be Anthonie Waterloo, to whom another drawing that is clearly by the same hand as this was attributed in 2004,¹ but in the absence of any firm evidence to back it up, this suggestion must remain speculative.
