Condition
Laid down on a Glomy mount. There is a small light brown stain to the upper left corner. Otherwise in very good condition, with the medium strong throughout.

Catalogue Note
Waterloo worked primarily as a draftsman and etcher, specializing in landscape scenes, which vary from highly detailed and topographically accurate views1 to atmospheric forest interiors.2
The present work, executed in Waterloo's favored combination of black chalk and gray wash, is a particularly atmospheric and charming depiction of a row of houses along the fortified walls of a city, whose ramshackle roofs are becoming overgrown by invading trees and vines.
