Condition

Hinged to the mount at upper margin. Overall in excellent condition. Some light brown staining around the edges of the sheet. Slight buckling of the vellum (nature of this support). Otherwise colours vibrant and strong.

Catalogue Note

Nicolas Huet was official painter to the Musée d'Histoire Naturelle et de la Ménagerie of the Empress Josephine, and specialised in painting animals and plants.  Three other fine examples of animals in a landscape setting by Huet were sold at Sotheby's: An Indian Elephant, The Royal Giraffe and A Tiger.1

Pomeranians, once used as hunting dogs, originated from the north of Russia and Siberia.
