Catalogue Note

Lean, metallic and fiercely energised, they embody the dynamism of the new mechanised society which the twentieth century promised to engender. The amount of impressive studies Bomberg made for this canvas testifies to the important place it occupied in his pre-war work’ – Richard Cork discussing David Bomberg’s The Mud Bath (Tate, London), in Richard Cork, David Bomberg, Tate, 1988, London (exh. cat.), p.72.
