Condition

Original canvas. The canvas undulates slightly, and there is a small tear to the canvas where it is pulled over the stretcher towards the right of the lower horizontal edge, with some associated paint loss, but otherwise the canvas appears sound. There are some very small, isolated flecks of loss around the extreme edges of the canvas in places, owing to the work being unframed. There are some fine, isolated lines of craquelure in places, with one or two tiny spots of early lifting visible. There is some light surface dirt, studio detritus and some specks of matter in places. There are two light possible scuffs apparent in the lower right corner. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in good overall original condition. Ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching. The work is unframed. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
