Condition

Original canvas. The canvas appears sound. There is a protrusion to the centre of the left edge, where something has been caught between the canvas and the stretcher bar. There are areas of paint cracking and small areas of loss to the black flower heads of the yellow flowers in the centre of the composition. There are a few tiny specks where the sand has been lost. There is some light surface dirt and staining in places. Elsewhere there are some light scuffs and rubs, including in the bottom right corner, but this excepting the work appears in good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching. Housed in a thick, gilt frame.
