Description
- John Wells
- Two Heads
- signed, titled and dated Feb 49 on the backing board
- oil and pencil on board
- 15 by 21cm.; 6 by 8¼in.
Provenance
Acquired directly from the Artist by the present owners in 1985
Condition
Not viewed out of the frame. The board appears sound. The artist has used a prepared board, which has some inherent craquelure and wear to the edges. There is a very small loss in the upper left quadrant, near the upper horizontal edge, and there are one or two losses around the edges of the work. There is a speck of surface dirt in the upper right corner. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in good and original condition.
Ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching.
The work is float mounted onto the Artist's own painted backing board, to which craquelure is apparent, with some very small associated losses and slight lifting. The work is presented in a simple painted wooden frame, held under glass.
