Envoi autographe signé à Marcel Proust : "à Marcel Proust avec mes sentiments fidèles d’admiration et d’amitié. Jacques de Lacretelle".
Proust reçut ce livre un mois avant sa mort.
Lors de leur première rencontre en décembre 1914, Jacques de Lacretelle interrogea Proust sur les modèles de la Recherche. En 1918, Proust lui dédicaça très longuement un exemplaire de Du Côté de chez Swann : "il n'y a pas de clefs pour les personnages de ce livre ; ou bien il y en huit ou dix pour un seul". Dans l'Hommage à Marcel Proust de la N.R.F. en 1923, Lacretelle revient sur ce problème des clefs proustiennes.
