Catalogue Note

A good collection of photographs of Egypt and portraits of individuals and groups. Peridis was a Greek photographer active in Egypt in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. "Colin Osman has indicated that the studio backdrops of Peridis sometimes resemble those of Zangaki and has suggested that perhaps Peridis was a former assistant of the Zangaki brothers, purchasing some of Zangaki's negatives at a later date" (Jacobson, p. 260). This would explain the combination of Zangaki and Peridis photographs in these albums.
