Catalogue Note
First published in 1756, Russell's Natural History of Aleppo was based on his thirteen year experience as physician to the English factory in the city and was described by Pinkerton as "one of the most complete pictures of Eastern manners extant". The work was later revised and enlarged to this second edition, enriched with additional plates, by his brother Patrick, who had joined him in Aleppo in 1750.
