FIRST EDITION, oblong folio (335 x 505mm.), lithographed vignette on title, dedication leaf, 22 lithographed plates after C.F. Head, 3 folding maps, one coloured by hand, contemporary dark green half morocco, green cloth boards, spine gilt, without errata slip, title and plates rather spotted, some tears and creases to maps, some tears to text and plates (mostly marginal, but occasionally into the text affecting some letters e.g. pp.53-54), rebacked retaining original spine, new endpapers and spine label, binding slightly worn

Head was especially interested in promoting the Red Sea route to India via Cairo and Suez. The plates are mostly of Egypt, but also illustrate views of Bombay, Socotra, Jeddah, Mocha, Loheia, and Malta.
