Catalogue Note

FIRST BOOK EDITION OF JAMES'S BRILLIANT COMIC NOVEL, UNCOMMON AT AUCTION. Three impressions, each of 250 copies, appeared between September and November 1878. The novel was serialised in Atlantic Monthly between July and October 1878. No distinguishing variants between the impressions have been established, although Edel and Laurence note that the errors to the headers may have appeared in the first and/or second impressions only.
