Catalogue Note

FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR'S FIRST NOVEL. A GREAT RARITY, with only a few copies selling at the time of publication and much of the stock, according to the publisher's records, destroyed by the Luftwaffe in the Blitz. Cassell did not exercise their option on Durrell's next book (Panic Spring) and thus began the author's long association with Faber & Faber.
