Catalogue Note

RARE. The recipient is the British character actor Peter Bull (1912-84), perhaps best known for his role at the Soviet Ambassador Alexi de Sadesky in Dr Strangelove (1964). He was also the first actor to portray Pozzo in the first English production of Beckett's Waiting for Godot in 1955.  According to Alan G. Thomas in Lawrence Durrell: A Study "the author's and the publisher's recollections of the number printed [of Ten Poems] differ so widely that it seems wiser not to quote them. The number was quite small, the book did not sell out and the residue stock was destroyed in the London blitz".
