Catalogue Note

A FINE COPY IN ITS ORIGINAL STATE, including "some of Tennyson's most enduring notes" (ODNB). According to Wise, the first copies are identified by two errors in the printing: firstly the misnumbering of p.91 as 19, and secondly "coronet" for "carcanet" on p.72. Both errors must have been discovered fairly early in the printing as copies including both mistakes are rarely seen. It evidently was "coronet" which was noticed first, as copies (such as the present example) exist with this amended but retaining the inverted page number.
