Catalogue Note
ONE OF THE MOST SOUGHT-AFTER CHILDREN'S BOOKS PUBLISHED IN AMERICA. Only ten copies of the first impression, stating April 1908 on the copyright page, have been sold at auction in the last thirty-five years. Although films were made of the book in 1919 and 1934, it was a made-for-television film of 1985 that brought the book to the attention of a large and devoted coterie of readers in the United States, Canada (where the novel is set) and Japan.
