Catalogue Note

The first edition was scheduled for publication in February 1939 but delayed, "as a result of which few copies were sold before the beginning of the war, the death of [Jack] Kahan [the publisher] and the shutting down of the Obelisk Press.". The bulk of the edition was sold when Maurice Girodias reopened for business after the war.
