Condition

There is a cutting mark to one side of the cong. There are encrustations to the inside of the cong. The stone is smoothly polished. The jade is of a darker, more olive colour than the catalogue illustration suggests.

Compare the present piece with a small cong similarly decorated with a comparatively simple design of horizontal lines, discovered at Taosi, Shaanxi province, illustrated in Chukogu ocho no tanjo, Tokyo, 1993, no. 9.
