Description

  • André Lhote
  • Paysage de Vic-sous-Thil
  • signed A. Lhote (lower left)
  • oil on canvas
  • 60.9 by 80.7cm., 24 by 31 3/4 in.

Exhibited

Geneva, Galerie La Grange, Lhote, 1981

Condition

The canvas is not lined. UV examination reveals small areas of retouching in places predominantly relating to lines of craquelure and small pigment losses; the most notable areas are a line approximately 5cm long towards the centre of the left edge and another area that appears to relate to a t-shaped tear to the lower right corner, approximately 6cm by 6cm. There is some frame rubbing along the edges with a few associated losses in places, predominantly along the left edge, not visible when framed. There are scattered fine lines of craquelure, some of which have been stabilised in the past. There are some raised lines in the canvas, some of which are inherent to the weave of the canvas and the most prominent of which runs along the right edge and possibly corresponds to an old stretcher bar mark. There is a light scratch to the lower left corner (approx. 3cm long). The canvas is gently undulating. This work is in overall fairly good condition.
