Catalogue Note

Etudes pour un crucifix is a prepatory drawing for Matisse's commission to create an overall design scheme for the Chapel of the Rosary of the Dominicans in Vence, today considered a culmination point within the artist's œuvre. Matisse approached the commission from a figurative perspective focusing on the effects of colour, light and movement within space.
