Condition

Executed on fibrous cream wove paper, not laid down. The sheet is not affixed and is sandwiched between backing board and the glass. There are a few tiny nicks to the perimeter of the sheet in places. The sheet is lightly time-stained with scattered small spots of foxing and handling marks in places. There are a few fine flattened creases, most notably a flattened crease of approx. 2cm at the centre of figure's lower back. There is a small spot of surface abrasion towards the centre of the left edge which is not visually disturbing. This work is in good overall condition.

The celebrated director Luchino Visconti acquired the present work when he was in Vienna in 1966 to direct Giuseppe Verdi's Falstaff for the Vienna State Opera conducted by Leonard Bernstein.
