Catalogue Note

Georg Meistermann was a German painter and draughstman famous across Europe for his stained glass windows. In the 1940s his focus shifted to painting and by the 1950s he had simplified his style to predominantly geometric arrangements that appear to hover on the surface of the canvas. These dynamic compositions recall his earlier stained-glass window designs; light seems to flood into the geometric forms from the background, resulting in particularly vivid and brilliant colours.
