Catalogue Note

With an A. Lange & Söhne certificate, an instruction manual and a presentation box.

In 2009, A. Lange & Söhne introduced its new invention – Zeitwerk, the very first mechanical wristwatch to feature a truly outstanding digital numeral display, a seemingly very simple time-telling mechanism elegantly conceals a highly complex movement composed of 388 parts. The constant force escapement is used to generate the switching impulse for the jumping hour and minute displays and also to drive the balance with even power. Demonstrating A. Lange & Söhne's commitment to the highest standards of horology, the Zeitwerk also won the L'Aiguille d'Or Grand Prize at the 2009 Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève.

Building upon such a well-received watch was the Zeitwerk Striking Time which combined the already impressive watch with digital display and a sonnerie complication. Housed in a large 44.2 mm case, the Zeitwerk Striking Time makes a statement every quarter hour with a chime via a hammer on a single gong. The brand added a novel twist to the Zeitwerk striking time by displaying two hammers onto two gongs on the dial, revealing the intricate movement of the striking mechanism.
