Catalogue Note

With a Cartier certificate, an instruction manual, a loupe and presentation box.

Exhibiting the true art of watchmaking, the Rotonde de Cartier Earth and Moon Watch combines the mechanical complexity, intellectual pursuit, and stunning aesthetic design. Cartier introduced this extraordinary watch in 2014 with only 50 pieces made.

Cartier bought two complications together in a daring display. This refined wristwatch is the product of their technical and creative ambition. This exquisite piece diverts the tourbillon from its strictly horological role, in which it serves as an assurance of precision and prestige, incorporating it in the backdrop of the moon-phase on demand display. To further emphasize the extravagant presentation, the dial is an eye-catching bright blue lapis lazuli with an 18K white gold Roman numeral grid that also features a map of the Earth in the center. Seen peeking out behind four o’clock is a lapis lazuli disc that can be pressed to display the current phase of the moon, while still revealing part of the tourbillon, which represents the shining moon. These details on the finishing of the dial and case are something that is rarely seen in complicated watches.

Technique and creativity are what make this watch a novel piece in the Cartier collection and beyond. It is a rare collector’s watch that is seldom presented.
