Condition
The movement is running at time of cataloguing, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement. The dial is in an excellent condition. The case has very minor fine scuffing as the watch appears to never have been worn, the hallmarks on the lugs are clearly visible.

Catalogue Note
Ref. 3960 was designed and made to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Patek Philippe in 1989. The 'Officier' was part of a series of limited edition watches marking the occasion and the first time Patek Philippe made limited edition pieces.
In all, Patek Philippe produced 2200 examples of this model, of which 2000 were in yellow gold; 150 in white gold and only 50 pieces in platinum.
This actual watch, number 769.459, is illustrated in the book: Patek Philippe, Wristwatches, M. Huber & A. Banbery, Vol. 2 Second Edition, page 123, where it is described as "New Limited Edition."
