Condition

The movement is running at time of cataloguing, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement. The dial in very good condition with an attractive patina, slightly glowing as it was re-lumed in 1970. The hands slightly glowing, re-lumed at the same time than the dial. The bezel later, loose and without the pearl. The plexiglass replaced with some usual light scuffs. The case has been polished, as expected on a vintage piece. Some dents to the bottom left lug, scuffs and scratches throughout due to age and use. The extensible bracelet : IV 62, end links 64. Overall: an attractive vintage piece in good general condition in accordance with age. The warranty is dated (1963) but the case number is not specified. It has a very interesting service record from 1964 to 1976 detailing the works carried by Rolex Bexley.

The Reference 5508 was produced between 1957 and 1961. The dial combines the gilt printing with the depth rating in white, creating an attractive contrast.
