Condition

Crisp cast with a few casting flaws visible at several places. Wear to the patina, in particular to the Bull's back, with remains of a dark brown patina, and minor surface dirt in the crevices. A few knocks to the Bull's tail which appears to have been cast separately.

Catalogue Note

Le modèle de Giambologna, probablement réalisé pour le grand duc Côme Ier de Médicis, est documenté pour la première fois en 1573. Un bronze de ce modèle conservé au musée du Bargello est seul considéré comme autographe (cf. Dhanens, Jean Boulogne, Giovanni Bologna Fiammingo, Bruxelles, 1956). D'autres bronzes de ce modèle, fondus par Antonio Susini et Pietro Taca, sont mentionnés dans les plus importantes collections européennes du début du XVIIe siècle.
