Literature

Ch. Avery, A. Radcliffe, Giambologna 1529-1608. Sculptor to the Medici, Londres, 1978, pp. 142-146.

Condition

The giltbronze Crucifix is in very good condition overall, the cast very crisp in all details, with fine chiselling of the surface, in particular Christ's hair and beard, as well as the perizonium. There are a few fine casting flaws visible at several places, in particular a fine hairline fissure around His shoulder. Drilling holes in hands and feet, and to His head where a crown was attached. Some minor wear to the patina consistent with age and handling. Fantastic bronze cast with very good finishing and details, which can be recommended.

Catalogue Note

S'inspirant du modèle réalisé par Giambologna (1529-1608) avant 1588, ce crucifix se distingue par la belle ciselure du bronze ainsi que le traitement détaillé de la surface, digne d'un travail d'orfèvre.
