Condition
The image is quite accurate. Scattered scratches and dents (especially on the feet) throughout all the surface consistent with age and handling. Structure is stable. A few cracks restored on the seat rail. Traces of old woodworm not active anymore; old patched restorations in places (filled in with wooden paste). Upholstery on the armrests extensively worn. The canned seat with a little wear. Exquisite design, rare to find both backrest and seat in heart-shaped. One close model in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (less attractive as the seat is not heart-shaped). Unique and extensively desirable.

Catalogue Note
L’échancrure centrale du dossier en forme de cœur, facilitant la mise en place des perruques, fut rarement employée sur ce type de fauteuil. Parmi les très rares sièges en cœur connus, citons une bergère estampillée du menuisier Bonnemain et un fauteuil conservé au musée des Arts décoratifs de Paris (Inv. 43441). Ce dernier est illustré dans B. Salmon et al., Chefs d’œuvre du Musée des Arts décoratifs, Paris, 2006, p. 74.
