Condition
Very good condition overall. The silvered bronze with some oxidation and surface dirt to the crevices. The marble base with some natural marble inclusions and a few minor chips to the lower edges. Very decorative.

Catalogue Note
En 1561, Catherine de Médicis commande un monument destiné à accueillir l’urne de cœur de son défunt époux, Henri II (musée du Louvre, inv. n° MR 1591). La conception du monument peut être l’œuvre du Primatice (1504-1570) - responsable des décors de Fontainebleau et nommé directeur des sépultures royales -, dérive du modèle antique du triple Hécate: divinité de lune à trois corps féminins (musées du Vatican). Victor Paillard fut reconnu comme l’un des plus talentueux bronziers de son temps. Il fut l’un des principaux collaborateurs de Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892) et ouvrit en 1830 une maison d’objets d’art et d’ameublement. Il participa à de nombreux projets officiels dont les décors du palais des Affaires Etrangères, quai d’Orsay.
