Description

  • Nicolas Copernic (1473-1543)
  • 31 x 28 x 15 cm; 12 by 11 by 6 in.

Condition

Fine and crisp cast with good finishing and chiselling of the surface, in particular of the hair and details of hands and face. Some oxidation to the silver terrace, and minor surface dirt in the crevices. The left volute of his bench as well as the book laying on the ground need to be reattached. The quality of the cast and finishing remind the bronzes of sculptors as Jean-Jacques Feuchère (1807-1852) and Jean-François-Théodore Gechter (1795-1844), in particular his bronze of Léonard da Vinci, dating from 1843 in the Girodet museum in Montargis.

Catalogue Note
