- les médaillons de David d'Angers signés David ou PJ David, certains datés entre 1829 et 1837; un médaillon de Mercier, signé et daté Mercier, 1837, et dédicacé M.A.Delatour, souvenir d'amitié
- en bronze à patine brune; sur un panneau en bois

Condition
In very good condition overall with some very minor wear to the surface of the bronzes consistent with age and handling. The wooden frame slightly bleeched, some oxydation to the brass framing of the medallions. Very fine set of medallions, good and crisp casts, dedicated in 1837 by the painter Jean-Michel Mercier (1786-1874), first Director of the Galerie David d'Angers, to Monsieur Delatour.

Catalogue Note
Ces médaillons, réalisés par David d'Angers en bronze représentent des personnalités illustres de l'époque dont le peintre Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840), la poète George Sand (1804-1876), Quatremère de Quincy (1755-1849) et Ennio Quirino Visconti (1751-1818). Mercier était le premier conservateur de la Galerie David d’Angers. Cet ensemble de médaillons a été réuni avant 1837, du vivant de David d'Angers, par M.A.Delatour, comme l'indique la dédicace.
