Condition

White marble with some grey natural veining, the surface appears to have been slightly cleaned. The head of the crying Child appears to have been reattached, a very fine hairline fissure visible around her elbow and above her knee. Statuettes with good modelling and carving of the details, very decorative.

Catalogue Note

Ces figures en marbre sont inspirées de modèles en biscuit de la manufacture de Sèvres, réalisés vers 1746-50 par Etienne-Maurice Falconet (1716-1791), dont Duru fut l'élève. Duru, qui recevait le plus haut salaire de l'atelier, fut actif à la manufacture entre 1753 et 1774. Finement modelés en marbre, la posture du Printemps évolue ici pour gagner en symétrie avec celle de l'Automne
