Catalogue Note
A rapprocher plus précisément de notre modèle, on ne relève aujourd’hui que des exemplaires légèrement plus tardifs, datables du Consulat et de l’Empire. Il convient de mentionner celui vendu par l’étude Aguttes le 11 juin 2012, lot 158 (mouvement de Jean-Joseph, neveu de Lepaute), ainsi qu’un exemplaire dit "du Congrès" exécuté par Lepaute pour Compiègne à la demande de l'Empereur, et aujourd’hui conservé au palais de l’Elysée à Paris.
Le cartel (et par conséquent le baromètre) semble antérieur à l’association des deux neveux de Lepaute (Jean-Joseph et Pierre-Henry) après le départ de leur oncle Jean-Baptiste en 1789, et doit donc bien être attribué à Jean-Baptiste Lepaute (1727-1803), reçu maître en 1776, qui les prit dans son atelier en 1774 lorsqu’il succéda à son frère Jean-André.
