the oviform ewer chased with palmettes alternating with bullrushes and with a horizontal band of berried foliage, leaf-tip borders, reeded scroll handle encased with leaves and spreading from an anthemion, oval basin decorated to match, both pieces engraved with lengthy Hebrew inscriptions, marked on both pieces.

Foot of ewer pushed up and repaired.

Catalogue Note

The inscriptions at the top of the ewer reads, translated, "Please merciful, bring your Shekhina (divine presence) back to Zion and the ceremony of Sacrifice to Jerusalem." The lower inscription reads "May this blessing that you ordered us to bless your people, Israel a whole blessing (May He) guard you, and be merciful to you and give you peace." The inscription on the basin reads "This is the gift of Haim Yosef Eliyahu, son of Yitzhak Nisan Halevi, the holy community of Bnei-Israel."
