paneled sides mounted with embossed panels of formal foliage on fabric ground, also with two Hebrew inscribed plaquettes one dated 1857, the borders chased with foliage and birds, mounted throughout with metal studs and bound with metal bands.

Catalogue Note

The two Hebrew inscribed plaques translate to "This is the Torah which was dedicated by Jacob son of the deceased Elijah in his honor and for his soul Rahamin his son the young man 1857."
A second plaque gives a warning that anyone selling, mortgaging, etc. this piece will be excommunicated plus other threats. for inappropriate use.
