Description
- paper, ink, wood
Manuscript scroll (Height of parchment: 7 in.; 178 mm:: Height of text: 5 in.;128 mm). Written in ink on parchment, in a "Vellish" hand used almost exclusively by those following Sefardic tradition. 42 lines; 181 columns on 44 membranes, sewn with gidin in some areas reinforced with glued parchment. Several scribal text repairs; cockling at joints; worn as expected. Mounted on turned wooden rollers. Yellow satin binder. Modern white and gold brocade mantle with braided gold fringes. Although no radiocarbon examination has been performed on the present scroll, the paleography suggests a relatively early date for this small Torah scroll, perhaps from the 17th century.
