Description

  • Tiffany Studios
  • "Nasturtium" Chandelier
  • shade impressed TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK
  • leaded glass and patinated bronze

Condition

Overall in very good condition. While this shade model is commonly presented with a table base, by all accounts this particular shade appears to have been fitted by Tiffany Studios in the period as a chandelier, as evidenced by its shade ring configuration and consistency of patina. The shade with approximately 20 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout. All of these hairlines appear stable. With some occasional minor separations to the shade leading in the upper region of the shade below the top aperture, all which appear stable and are only visible under very close inspection. All of the hardware, including the sockets, paddle switches, spider (small device which keeps the shade in place around the central hanging rod), chains, rod and ceiling canopy all appear original and undisturbed. The hardware with expected light surface wear and discolorations consistent with age and gentle use. A gorgeous example of the model displaying an exceptionally dynamic and richly saturated color palette. The shade displays with strong visual interest and movement. The nasturtium blossoms are articulated in varying hues of deep magenta, scarlet red, pinks and oranges. The glass shows far greater visual depth and nuance than seen in the catalogue illustration, which does not fully capture the radiance and luminosity of the glass.
