Condition

Overall in very good condition. This lamp is being consigned by direct descendants of the original owners from the period, and by all accounts the shade, base and heat cap have originated together since the period. The shade with approximately 14 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout. All of these hairlines appear stable, and have recently been sensitively stabilized by a professional Tiffany conservator. The shade leading is beautifully rendered with very refined lines. The shade leading and metal overlays over the poppy centers and lower leaf register display an exceptionally rich green and russet brown patina. With minor surface soiling to the recessed contours of the metal reticulations over the poppy centers. The poppy centers are thoughtfully articulated in a range of richly saturated jewel-tone hues including deep cobalt, magenta, green and turquoise. The base displays an exceptionally rich layered patina of greens and russet brown. The bronze surfaces throughout with some occasional surface scratches and abrasions, some isolated traces of tiny paint marks and surface residue, and light rubbing consistent with age and gentle handling. All three socket casings appear original and undisturbed; one of the paddle switches appears to be an old replacement. The heat cap (by all accounts original to the lamp) shows light surface wear and rubbing, and with one small shallow surface bruise to the perimeter. An outstanding example of the model displaying a fully saturated and well varied glass selection. The incredible range of color seen in this shade is not sufficiently captured in the catalogue illustrations. In particular, the background passages show a stunning range of hues in the striated glass selection.
