of rectangular form, the attractively grained box and cover with beaded rims and huangtong hinges, circular lock plate with cloud-form hasp, reinforcing straps along the corner edges and bail handles, the cover later inlaid with mother-of-pearl, malachite, turquoise, lapus lazuli and soapstone with a lively scene of cranes flocking towards a large pine tree and rockwork issuing lingzhi

Condition

The inlaid decoration is of a later date. The box with a long slender horizontal patch to the top panel. There is some shrinkage and splitting to the base panel. The mounts are later replacements. There has been overall consolidation of the joinery. The surface with expected wear with small nicks and scratches.
