the first Tongzhi mark and period; the second Guangxu mark and period; each finely incised to the interior with two writhing dragons contesting 'a flaming pearl', the exterior with four grape clusters pendent from the single line incised rim, the base with a six-character mark in aubergine enamel (2)

Provenance

Beijing collector, acquired in the 1940s.
Gifted to a Canadian missionary family, China, 1970s and thence by descent.

Condition

The Guangxu dish has three short rim cracks, the longest measuring 0.9 cm, together with an approx. 1 cm glaze line to the exterior rim. The Tongzhi dish is in overall good condition. Both dishes with some minor firing imperfections.
