the cylindrical tapering vessel rising from the rounded shoulders to a waisted neck and straight rim, well-painted in varied tones of underglaze blue on a creamy-white ground, depicting a seated sage leaning heavily onto a long painting table, arranged with scholarly objects, a young attendant standing attentively close by, both staring at four deer striding in the foreground, all within a mountainous landscape of tall pines, rockwork issuing lingzhi, and five auspicious bats flying overhead 

Provenance

Collection of Georg Weishaupt (1906-2004), Berlin.

Condition

There is an approx. 2 in wide inverted V-shape restored break to the rim with an associated hairline crack. There is another star shaped body crack mid-section and loose networks of glaze cracks to the body. There are two small circular recessed potting flaws mid-section. There is a small chip to the foot with signs of an old restoration.
