Description

  • lacquer
of oval form, delicately carved in varied levels of relief through layers of cinnabar lacquer, the fitted cover with a melon and an insect on a flowering vine, the sides of the box encircled by key-fret bands, the interior and base lacquered black, wood box

Condition

There is a crack running from the outer rim of the cover through the band of keyfret and running along the edge of the top of the cover (approx. 3 cm. long).
