the compressed spherical body raised on three short feet rising to a short waisted neck and wide flat rim with two upright loop handles, the interior base with Xuande six-character mark, framed by two writhing dragons, the exterior base cast with a twelve-character inscription incorporating an apocryphal Xuande date, which can be translated as 'Bestowed on the Minister of Census, Guo Zi, in the Spring of the fifth year of Xuande'
Condition
There are patches of deposits around the interior where the handles are attached to the censer. The exterior is painted with a layer of black paint just under the everted rim, possibly to conceal flaws.
