the shallow rounded sides rising from a short tapering foot to a broad everted lipped rim, carved to the interior with a foliate medallion encircled by lobes in the well, covered overall in a bluish-green glaze save for the base which has a ring burnt orange in the firing

Condition

A section of the rim (approx. 14cm wide) has been restored. The exterior is engraved with an Islamic inscription near the foot, reading Shah Shuja (son of Sha Jahan, 1616-1661) followed by a date '1055' in Persian script (corresponding to 1645).
