Description

  • rhinoceros
the oval body with steep flaring sides, finely carved around the exterior with pairs of phoenix in flight and perched upon scrolling leafy magnolia, all supported on an oval flower stem foot extending up the side of the body to form the handle, the horn of reddish-brown tone 

Condition

The cup is in good condition with the exception of loss to a circa 2.5cm., section of the tendril forming the foot, with associated minor loss to the adjoin carving, two 1cm., and one 1.5cm., hairline rim cracks, minor rim nibbles and possible loss and re-carving to the top of the handle.
